Ian's rendition of our trip to Yosemite.

"after driving 850 miles, i made it back from yosemite and sequoia/kings
canyon alive and in one piece! phew! not bad for a weekend trip! unlike
all our previous trips, this time we left on friday night and slept up in
fresno [where we were warned by the motel 6 security not to hang around
outside, because there was often driveby shootings, this is all while the
clerk was behind bulletproof glass]. seth and rebecca joined our usual
crew of me, nick and tanya. we got up saturday morning and drove the 90
miles into yosemite, and hiked around waterfalls and stuff till we couldnt
move our bodies. unfortunately this was part of our undoing because seth
got the great idea to swim in the pool above the waterfall [afterall, it
was a hot day and he was hungry for fish] and was quickly sucked over the
top! rebecca decided to jump in to save him and was quickly doing a swan
dive off the top of the waterfall too. tough break! so tanya nick and i
had to climb back down the rocky ledge to identify the bodies with the
park ranger, thats when we saw seth at the bottom through the rangers
binoculars! he was barely alive! but then two black bears at the base of
the waterfall ran in and started ripping his fragile body up like shreds
of paper! turns out that once a bear has a taste of human, they go on
killing rampages through people's tents and stuff never eating fish again
like they should! who knew!

nick would have none of this, so he went down and started hitting the bear
with his backpack and the bear promptly ate off his upper torso leaving
his legs for the other bear who quickly ate those too. all that was left
was me and tanya, so we decided we were done with hiking for a little
while, and headed back to the car and drove home.

the end." - ian

Interesting story. I think its fabricated...hmm.

Pictures to come soon...

My first days at Yahoo!

Yahoo!

This week I started at Yahoo. Its been crazy and fun at the sametime. Everyone is very cool here. Its fun to be at a company where everyone is into relatively the same thing (meaning that basically we are all geeks). I broke down the days of whats been going on.

MONDAY:

The HQ at Yahoo! are nuts. I feel like I am at college all over again. The first day we had orientation and had presenters talk to us and tell us about Yahoos goals and values. Yahoo gave us backpacks with some cool stuff and split us into groups to allow us to meet different people. They told us that every Monday, Yahoo! does orientation for around 40 - 80 new people, thats insane! And they are looking to add another 2,000 employees this year!

After getting up to speed with Benefits and some other formalities, I met with my other new team member and my boss. We had lunch and then got our badges; which allow access to the buildings, but also lets us put money on it so we can use our badge to buy food and stuff at the onsite convenience store.

While on the topic let me tell you what is at HQ and some services they provide. The Yahoo campus is comprised of seven buildings that house different properties (aka departments / products like sports, news etc...). They have a basketball court, volleyball court and hiking trail near the bay. They provide onsite car wash, oil change, hair cuts, convience stores and suit cleaning (just to name a few).

After getting the badges I went back to orientation for a couple more hours of presentation. Around 2pm I was done and ready to meet the rest of my teamates. Everyone I work with is pretty cool, its fun to meet the guys that run the News pages. I actually have already done some updates to the news pages.

The rest of the day I hung out and got acquainted with my co-workers and the internal website.

TUESDAY:

I attended a couple of training classes that familiarize myself with engineering standards that are used. I ate lunch at the companies dinning commons called "Eat at URL's" (if you understand URL then its a clever name). Most of the day was getting used to how Yahoo sets up its web pages and reading documentation.

One interesting part of the day was my meeting with Tony Tam. He is basically a genius, he is the man behind everything Yahoo News related. He had worked here for seven years now and kind of has his feet in everything. He showed me how the site is organized and how to do some editing. I met a couple of other colleages and just picked their brain about what they did.

At 7pm I was informed that there was a geek conference in one of the buildings. Some developers and owners of some new funky websites came to talk about their approach to web searching and other geek stuff. It was somewhat interesting, I think they main thing I was impressed by what the fact that I was able to attend such conferences =0)

WEDNESDAY:

This isnt as interesting as the others, I have been getting up to speed on the system and doing some programming edits to the News pages. Someay I will be able to show you some cool stuff I did!

Thats all for now, hopefull I will take some pictures tomorrow and upload them for you to see. I didnt bring my camera so it will be all camera phone pictures =0( Til then I will talk to you later.

</ljcut>

Last weekend, Rebekah, myself, her two brothers and their families took a trip to the most magical place on earth, Disneyland. It had been 10 years since I went to Disneyworld so this was going to be a big refresher. We got there at 9am and the party didnt stop until 10pm, thats right, 13 hours of Disneyland fun. It turned out to be a really good time.

We ended up going on almost every ride, that included Space Mountain, Mattadore, Small World, Peter Pan, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted House and more that I cant remember. I would have to say my favorite of all the rides was probably the Mattadore. It was a rollercoaster ride that went around a snow mountain. My most sentimental favorite was the Peter Pan ride, something about being up high above Big Ben.

In an attempt to get as much out of Disneyland as we could; we were tried to stay late so we could see the grand fireworks display. Since it was the 50th anniversary of Disneyland existance, they had a spectacular fireworks display and parades on the hour. But because of high winds the show was cancelled. Althought, that didnt stop them from showering the streets in snow (see below).

All in all it was a great time, the kids were good and didnt cause to much of a fuss. We got to go on all the rides we wanted and I still was able to chill in Mickey's house.

Well, enough of my babling, take a gander at some of the pictures from that day.

As some of you may know I missed an opportunity to see see coldplay in 2000 when they first came to the US. Well this time I was not going to let them pass me by. We bought tickets un June and had some pretty high up seats (nose bleeds if you will). We were in the second to last row. Nonetheless, it was an amazing concert. They played all there best songs and new ones from their recent album. The lead singer, Chris Martin, was very funny, joked around with the crowd and even ran in to the crowd and jumped on the sound mixers. They did about 15 songs and lasted for a while. Overall, it was great and and I suggest everyone see them. Well, here are some pictures from the concert. We were really far away so the pictures are not great but still good.

The band rocking out!

More rocking out.

Chris setting the tone.

</ljcut>

Muir Woods + Napa Valley + Winchester Mystery House OH MY

North California: Napa Valley, Winchester Mansion, Old Faithful and Muir Woods.

Welcome,

Rebekah and I high tailed up to Northern California to see some beautiful areas. We drove an hr north from Rebekah's house to Napa Valley (where all the wine is made). On both sides of the road are rows and rows of vineyards. A little north of that was our first tourist trap, Old Faithful of California. One of only 3 remaining geysers in the world that erupts at set intervals. We arrived just in time and were able to see all its glory. After that we found the Robert Mondavi winery and did some wine tasting.

The next day we drove to Muir Woods to see the enormous Redwoods. The average redwood grows to be 300ft and they werent kidding. The forest was beautiful, a quick hr walking trail led us to some nice areas. After that we drove up along the california coast of Coastal Highway 1.

On the last day of our journey we ended up in San Jose. The Winchester Mansion was our destination. This house was built by the widow of the founder of Winchester Rifles. She thought ghosts were telling her to move west and build. So she packed it up from CT and drove to San Jose, CA; bought some land and starting building a house that could never be finished. She ended building over 150 rooms with doors that open to walls and staircases that lead to nowhere. The house was pretty cool but since all of the original furniture was auctioned upon her death in 1919, the mystery was kind of not that mysterious. The idea was nice but wasnt what I thought it would be.

OK OK, enough of my babling on and on, click the link below to see the pictures from our trip. =0)

We didnt take any pictures inside the house, cause there was really not much to take pictures of. You will have to see it for yourself. Take care and stay tuned for our next adventure.

Filled with acres of open land, secret rooms, wild animals and magnificent views. This castle is known to be called, Hearst Castle. Conceived by W.R.Hearst in the 1920's, he spent 20 years building his dream home. Although it was never finished, the structure that was completed is breathtaking.

So sit back and enjoy the show, Rebekah and I will be your tour guides...

W.R.Hearsts' father bought acres and acres of land in the late 1800's.

Which was inhereted by his only son. He decided to build.

The front of his castle. Resembling European structural style.

Two towers that housed himself and his wife (or mistress).

One of the 37 bedrooms that were in his estate.

The dinner table where celebrities and government officals dined.

Statues created from some of the greatest artists in the world.

His pride, officially the oldest statue in the world. Coming all the way from Egypt.

Your tour guide, Rebekah

and Seth

Thank you for watching this episode. There is so much more to Hearst Castle than what I have showed. There are 5 seperate tours of the estate. Each one showing different rooms and sections of the house. W.R. Hearst died before the house was completed. His family decided to leave it the way he had left it. The state of California considers Hearst Castle and national landmark. Its a beautfil place to see. The view of the Pacific Ocean from atop the hill is one of the best views you could see. Thanks for tuning in, more to come in the future.

Echoooooo Mountainnnnnnn

Hello again,

Our next adventure takes us to Echo Mountain in Alta Dena, CA. About 100 years ago a man from the east coast moved to CA for its quality air and warm weather (at least one of them is true nowadays). Upon his exploration of the land, he traveled to the top of Echo Mountain. He noticed that there was enough land and privacy to build a house and some other activities atop the mountain.

After a couple of years he had completed a hotel, casino, trolly station, power plant, dance hall and tennis courts. For five years this was the place for some of CA finiest citizens. The property was eventually forclosed and forest fires burned down all but the observatory a few yards away.

Today the foundations of the house and casino still are present. A few monuments and some old parts of the train are still there. The view atop the mountain is one of the best I have seen. But enough of my rambldings, take a look at the pictures below and enjoy.

It cook Rebekah and I, 2 hours to reach the top.

A scenic view along the way, many friendly people passed us by.

Another great view!

Some nice flowers for us to smell.

Way in the background is Downtown LA, somewhere in the fog, err smog.

What would Echo Mtn be without a Echo Phone.

A piece of the train that brought people to the top.

And another piece, I tried to take some home but couldnt.

Really high up, this was the patio area of the house.

Hope you enjoyed the pics, "Hi Mom!"

After some fine eating and guitar playing we spent the next day running around San Francisco. This was my first time to the city that brought us Full House and Rice a Roni, and I must say, I was impressed. It seemed cleaner and a little more exciting that its LA counterpart. We traveled through Fishermans Warf, Fort Point, Golden Gate Bridge and some other places.

Usually I would have pictures here with funny anecdotes, but not this time. I got my pictures developed on CD and they came with a built in webpage for viewing. So following the link below and enjoy!

Pictures of San Francisco

This past weekend I went camping with Rebekah and her friends. Four girls and two guys on an adventure into the unknown. Umm...or to a campsite on the beach. The site was nice, it lacked wild animals and a dark forest but it made up with a beach and warm weather.

As I mentioned before, we played some frisbee on the beach, paddleball on the grass, cooked very nutritious meals and had smores around the campfire. We had enough food to last a month and enjoyed every bit of it.

Enough of my ramblings, enjoy the pictures. This time to the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, CA. This was the former estate of Henry E. and Arabella Huntington. They had collected masses of British and American literature, paintings and much more.

In their library were documents from the 1700's with George Washington's name signature, paintings and funiture from the 1500's. To house all this work, they built an enourmous mansion with 50 ft ceilings and interweaving rooms. Outside are over 150 acres land that includes desert area, plants from Australia, Africa and the Americas and alot more.

If you want more information or pictures then click here.

VIVA LAS VEGAS

Las Vegas

Hello again,

Last weekend, Jake and I decided to take a short trip to Las Vegas. We figured what better a place to watch the Super Bowl then in Vegas. My dad and stepmom were also flying to Vegas to watch the game too, so we decided to join them.

We arrived Saturday around lunch time, checked in to the fabulous Super 8 Motel (the biggest in the world, might I add) and started our exploration. I had been there only once before and Jake a while since his last time, so it was time to get to work =0). We ate a huge buffet at the Excaliber and then wandered thru the strips many bars and casino's. I ended up only losing a little money to the Casino God's, we actually spent more money on drinks then gambling. Which is bad because arent drinks free when you gamble? I guess we found that out the hard way.

Funny story alert
After we ate at the Excalibur we found our way to the Luxor and their bar. We got to talking to the bartender and found out that he was flamming. He started asking why were we there, where we were from blah blah... so he asked what I did. I told him I was a struggling actor in LA. He told me I had the face for it. At this point I'm wondering is he gonna give me free drinks or what? So Jakes leaves to go to the bathroom and I am stuck with this guy hitting on me. A little uncomfortable but I am drinking but still trying to avoid all eye contact. He keeps asking my questions and then finally asks if I like to Ski. Um...I think we all know what he meant by that, so I was all set. That was the last I saw of him, his drinks were strong though =0)

After drinking for 12 hrs, we woke Sunday refreshed and ready to watch the Pats kick some Eagle ass. Which they did! We met up with my family at the Bellagio. We watched the game at the betting area, perched in 4 luxorious leather recliner seats. Life was good. Many bad commercials and hours later the Pats WON and by that time had to part ways with the city we grew to love...

As always...its picture time.

The lonely dirt road to freedom, I still am in awe of the fact that this place exists.

Our luxorious Super 8 Motel, have the price and double the sleeze of the other hotels.

You saw the pool in the last picture, now check out our very own Super 8 Casino.

New York New York in the day time, nicely done.

Excaliber, Jakes favorite, I think he teared up when he saw it. I also got hit on by a gay bartender here.

Lady Liberty in Sin City? Hey, everybody has needs.

Paris and such at night. Tacky lights are so cool.

This is where we watched the game, couldnt get any better.

There are more pictures on Jakes site, check em out.

The happy family =0) Together for the game. (No I'm not drunk)

On Saturday, Rebekah and I went to the Arbotetum of LA County in Arcadia. This place housed plants and tree from all over the world. Asia, Australia, Africa, North America, everywhere. Basically all the major continents. There were also a couple of weddings being held, too. This is also the place where Meet the Fockers was filmed, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I was told it was here. Now on to some pictures...

A tree, bet you never saw this before.

Not sure what these are called, but it looks like powdered sugar was spread on them.

A waterfall, there were a bunch of them present.

A peacock, they were the only animals roaming around.

A ray of light.

This peacock either was going to kill someone or wanted a mate. Hmm...

I made friends with a dinosaur. Lets call him Barney.

Finally, I made friends with a duck too. Sadly I had no bread.

The roomates, Mark + Melissa, my friend Melissa from home and I celebrated thanksgiving in Glendale. We had a 14lb turkey, mashed potatos, corn, stuffin, bread, carrots, cranberry sauce, and brocolli. The turkey we started yesterday. Washed it, cleaned it out, put stuffing in it. Fabulous. After 6 hours of cooking it was time to eat.

So we ate on the floor cause we didnt have a table. You would think it would stink but I liked it.The smooth sound of jazz engulfed the room, we said grace and ate like pigs. An hour later and it was time to explode. We spent the rest of the day watching movies and being fat.

I was assured it was a scam and didnt believe that he would get anything in the mail. But he did!. What he had to do was sign up for one free offer then refer this site to 5 of his friends. Once those friends sign up for one free offer, he gets credit and the free ipod.

I know what your thinking, this is a complete scam. But its not, it actually worked. So what I need from you is to click my referral link and sign up for one free offer. I picked the GM credit card thing, theres no charge to do it, you just get a new credit card. If you dont use it then your fine and wont have to worry about paying anything. There are about 15 different offers but some you need to pay shipping or something. If you are interested in this, then click my referral link, thats the only way I get credit.

Heres the link click here to help a poor college grad out

Thanks.

The Getty Center - Los Angeles, California

Whats up everyone? Well I felt inspired to see so more art this past Sunday. I decided to go to The Getty Center in LA. This magnificent place was nestled at the top of a mountain, overlooking all of LA and the Pacific.

The adventure started with a tram ride to the top of the mountain, where the museum awaited. The museum itself consists of 5 different buildings, holding different centuries of art. It took me about 3 hours to get through
all of them, but it was well worth the time. They also have a garden with a beautful waterfall and pond. I tried to take pictures of as much art work as I could, but as always the pictures never do any justice.

Ok enough of me blabing, I hope you enjoy the slim down photos. Also leave me a comment if you like.

A scenic view the Pacific Ocean.

A "scenic" view of downtown LA and other regions

Of the greek legend, guy (forgot name) holding the head of medusa.

Again no clue who did it, I forget to write it down when I capture it. =0(

Whats up,

Another weekend recap. Friday night the roomates and I went to a local kareoke bar. We sat down and had a pitcher of beer, then two korean guys sitting next to us, bought us a pitcher for no reason. We were certain they were gay. We got to talking and they were just really drunk, but weird nonetheless. One of them kept getting up to sing songs, the other was talkin about woman's vagina sizes. So it came closing time, the vagina guy gave us his number and we gave him a phony one. We ran out of there, definately an LA thing.

Saturday night was more heterosexual. We went to Magic Mountain (Six Flags). There, we waited an 1hr and 1/2 for Goliath. The wait was worth it, so much fun....I said holy shit 100 times. The big thing of the night was celebrity spotting Tay Diggs. While we were waiting in line, he was a few rows over from us. We spotted him and Jen started peeing her pants (def a crazed fan). She tried to use Jake as a shield to take his picture lol. After the ride, he got out after us and he was right by me, I mean an inch away, I was star struck then. The dude was massive, but short. Also at 6 Flags was Fright Fest, this involved haunted houses and grusome creators following us and scaring the shit out of us. The haunted houses were hilarious, I had a cramp afterwards.

To see pictures of the festivities, click here.

All in all the weekend was fun, more to come....

James Deans Remembered

Hi,

Its been a while since I last wrote. Now that I am working I tend to have less time to chat away on this thing. Anyways, things are going great. I like my job very much, it allows me to be very independent and learn at my own pace. Half the time I am reading these reference books that my boss gave me. Its wierd how much you can learn when you are forced too.

This past weekend was an exceptional one. Friday night we went to a kareoke bar called Dimples. Which turned out to be the celebrity hot spot. We saw Ben Stiller buddy Vince Vaughn and a couple other people that are not work mentioning. This is was my first celebrity sighting, so Hollywood. Saturday we went mini-golfing, Jake, Jen, Becca and I had a bet. Who ever won would receive a six pack from the 3 losers. Yours truly took that bet, I am still awaiting my prize.

Sunday turned out to be fun. Since Jake is obsessed with James Dean and thursday was the 49th anniversary of his death. We decided to take a trip to Cholame, CA. Three hours northwest of Glendale, the intersection of Rt 41 ane Rt 46 are where his life was cut short. He was drive a gray 1955 Spyder to Salinas, CA for a race that weekend. As he was heading East a driver heading West was about to turn left onto 41. The combination of dusk, grey road top and Deans small car, made him blend in with the street. The other driver, Donald Turnupspeed did not see the car and Dean crashed driverside first into his truck. Dean was killed on impact and his passenger was thrown from the car, suffering some broken bones.

A 1.5 mile down road is a memorial site for Dean. Take a look at Jakes Web Journal to see the pictures we took. Click here to the pictures

This weekend brought me to the world famous Norton Simon Museum of Art in Pasadena.

A beautiful museum that displays paintings by Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, Rembrandt, Renoir, Degas, Bassano, and so many more artists. I have some pictures below of the gallery and paintings. These pictures hardly do any justice, but its a taste of what I witnessed.

Also for more information check their website: Norton Simon Museum of Art

A picture of one of the galleries. I think it was the 17th century one, not sure though.

This is the gallery of the 19th / 20th Century time period. More rooms go off from this one.

One last view of the gallery.

Sam Francis' Basal Mural. It took up the entire wall.

I dont know the name of this but its by Rembrandt.

Pablo Picasso's Woman with a Book. I love the color in this.

Another Picasso, this one called Ramshead (i think).

This painting is huge, I dont have any information on it. Except that its huge, could be seen from 3 rooms away.
